About Imperial Spring
Imperial Spring was incorporated in 1958 in Southington, Connecticut, manufacturing compression springs as well as extension springs, torsion springs and wire forms in wire diameters of .080" and smaller. The company founder, Louis E. Palazzo was the sole employee and the company occupied manufacturing and office space totaling less than 600 square feet.
The company remained in the Southington/Milldale area for the next 50 years until relocating to nearby Bristol, Connecticut in late 2009. The customer base in the early years consisted mainly of manufacturers located in Connecticut and New York whose products included solenoid valves, toys and electronic components. As the company grew, it?s capabilities expanded to include springs and wire forms to customer specifications designed from material up to .375? wire diameter. The factory floor consisted of several departments and a variety of manufacturing equipment for coiling, grinding, testing, finishing, and packaging an array of compression, extension, and torsion springs, as well as wire rings and small lot stampings.
For 20 years from the mid 1980?s until 2004, Imperial owned a satellite manufacturing location in the Southbridge, Massachusetts area. This location was the result of a longtime association with General Spring and Wire, which originated in Oxford, Massachusetts and moved to Tennessee in the 1980?s. Imperial?s satellite Massachusetts location is now part of the Bristol operation.
Between the late 1970?s and the 1990?s an explosion of equipment advances enhanced by the shop floor computer improved manufacturing tolerances and increased productivity. Electronic gages could now monitor variation in free length of compression springs and automatically sort parts out of tolerance. Pick and place units were devised to transfer parts to secondary work stations as part of the primary manufacturing process. Servo motors could now start and stop wire feeding many times during one cycle making complicated bends and shapes routine. The quality of inbound raw material increased dramatically. The structure of the steel improved as well as coatings to enhance manufacturing and provide superior corrosion resistance in the end product.
Today Imperial Spring remains family owned with Lawrence Palazzo as President and owner. The company has a reputation for manufacturing a quality product shipped to an expanded geographical base in Europe, South America, Canada, the Caribbean and coast to coast in the United States. Our customer?s products include agricultural equipment, truck accessories, automotive equipment, and a wide variety of valve and control products, commercial food processing equipment, medical equipment and drapery hardware. Imperial Spring follows a business and quality system developed for compliance to ISO 9002 and QS 9000, and is dedicated to constant improvement.
