Close wound refers to any spring where one coil is touching the adjacent coil. Torsion springs can be close wound and extension springs usually are close wound. Close wound, as a category, refers to extension springs that do not have hooks or loops as shown in the photo. These springs can be uniform or multi-diameter. Close wound springs can be used as fixtures, guides and supports such as hose supports. Other uses are at the imagination of the designer.
